As I started day 2 of LAB2, extracting clippings from Amandala newspapers dated February to July 2015, I realized the immense body of work, the legacy of Kareem Clarke. Taking pictures of people who asked what the names on the wall were about.
Even as I did that, young Linsford Castillo jr. (maybe 10 or 11) said he would draw something, on a column in the gallery space. I videotaped and took pictures, later the great Michael Gordon drew a face, as Castillo Jr. challenged him, as children sometimes will, to beat his drawing.
Later the media came, asking media questions, valid, but as everything is still loose in my mind, raw and new. I baffued excellently.
River of Fire wrote an acrostic poem on the column, this I filmed too.
My second installation is not yet done, I will resume tomorrow.
